Spring break review

We absolutely loved Spring Break! Robert was home until Thursday. We were hoping he would get to stay home at least through Easter, but it never seems to work that way for us. He NEVER gets to be home for the holidays! But, we are not complaining because God has blessed him with a great job with lots of promotions along the way. It allows me to fulfill my childhood dream of just being a mommy to my family! I know that was what I was made to do! Even as a small child, when people would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would say "I am going to get married and have lots of kids and I am going to be a housewife!" My mom thought I would change my mind. She would laugh about it! Now that I am living that dream she finds it even more funny that I got what I asked for... good, bad and ugly! LOL!

Anyway, back to my original post! Robert got the boat running and we decided to take it out for the day... which turned into a camping trip. If you know me, then you know that I am not a "camper" per say. I am the one who can be found sleeping in the A/C, with running water... see??? We used to camp when I was little and I just didn't grow any passionate feelings for it except for distress at the thought of sleeping on the ground, showering with flip-flops on in a park bathroom, sweating while I am sleeping... the list could go on! When Robert and I finally decided that camping would be fun for our family we compromised with a camping trailer! That's more my speed! Don't get me wrong! I love nature, I love the woods, I love fishing, getting dirty and roasting marshmellows! There are many things in nature that the Lord has blessed us with that you can't experience without getting out there... but... He also blessed us with brilliant people who came up with nice modern aminities that I feel we should take advantage of! I wouldn't wants these ideas to go to waste! ;)

Needless to say, we did not plan this trip and we went by boat... so out came the tent and the blow up mattresses!  We were with Mike and Kristi (My aunt and uncle) and their 4 kids, plus 2 more friends of my children. So there were 11 kids from ages 3-13 and 4 adults. The bigger kids decided that due to the fact that "their may be bears out there", they should sleep on the boats. So the grown ups and 3 small children got the tent. This was a good sized tent! It has a queen sized mattress, a twin and a single/full. Robert and I took the single/full and would have been fine except that in the middle of the night our two precious bed hogs came and crammed in with us! LOL! I couldn't sleep because Hannah punched and kicked all night, we were using Ashleigh as our pillow for most of the night and I couldn't stop listening for the others on the boat. At one point I woke Robert up and made him go with me to check on the kids. He got a leg cramp crawling back into the tent! LOL... I know it's not funny, but it kinda is! The next morning we couldn't have gotten out of their fast enough and we made an agreement that we would never do that again! :) Oh, did I mention that Ashleigh and I had over 100 bug bites a piece from the biting gnats??

All in all it was a fun trip out and the kids really enjoyed it, we roasted hot dogs, hung out and played. But I think we were all 7 in agreement that we are just not the roughing it kinda crew! Here are some pics! Enjoy!

  1. You are my kinda girl when it comes to camping. I have never understood why anybody saves up vacation time to go and pretend like they are 'homeless' for a week! Holiday Inn is my style for camping. Love ya!
